Poems about loss

  • no one tells you how to grieve
    a loss you never gained
    love bottled up inside
    unconditionally
    with nowhere to go
    but down my eyes
    our love
never had a chance to grow
was never meant to be seen
    by anyone but me

  • while the birds are singing
    it’s silent on your side
    the cars keep moving
    as the people keep walking
    the dogs are happy
as the sun is still shining
    everybody is talking
    like nothing happened
    the birds are singing
    while you can’t
    anymore

  • i came to the ocean
    to find my calm
    but just like me
there seems to be a storm
    waves are crashing
    in 4 different directions
    fighting for space
    breaking the other
    but all is water
    all is the same
    thoughts and emotions
    fear and peace
    try to observe
    when a wave curves
    and the tide comes in
    there’s no way to win

  • there was no way to tell
    what came first
    the rain or the mood
    it all flowed together
    in a vortex of solitude

  • my friends still look at me with pity
    when we talk about you
and the hurt you’ve put me through

    i had quit my job
    rejected my first apartment
spend weeks crying on my moms couch
    until my tears dried out
    and empty feeling settled in
    cause you found someone else

    you told me suddenly
‘’when i look at her i see myself’’
    the words still hurt me
but now i can finally see
we were never meant to be
merely here to teach me to love
but resulted in me being afraid to open up
    again

  • keep your chin up my dear
even on days when you’re not feeling it
when the clouds are too heavy
and all you see is black
try to roll your shoulders back

your body doesn’t know the difference
    stand a little taller
fix your posture, help her think
bring mind and body back in sync

    especially on the hard days
listen for sounds that are mellow
and watch the sky turn yellow
it’s all for you my dear
    don’t forget to look up
