Las Tunas, week 3

Gorgeous sunsets, diving at Puerto Lopez, and writing something I’m proud of again.

June 10, ?

Blegh I still feel like blegh. Went to bed early, around 21:00, but I am still tired. Just one of those low energy days where everything feels like too much and all you want to do is cry.

I feel soooo much better. I went diving again. On the way to the dive spot we even saw whales! The first ones of the season! So amazing to see them from close by. And then the diving didn’t even start yet! What a day. Who knew that just doing something you really love would instantly make you feel better 🙃.

Also, Mike really had to suffer from me not being my best self, oops. He came back to the hostel after spending two days here and arrived just in time for my mood swings. It’s great to have him around, but when you feel comfortable around someone, you are also comfortable enough to show the not so happy parts of you. So I apologised for my behaviour and now it’s all good again haha.

This was such a chill day. I went diving again in the afternoon for the last two dives of my Advanced Open Water course. The dive site was a little less impressive but still really nice. There were a lot of pufferfish and they are just too cute. And this time I had no problems with my ears and my buoyancy was completely under control! So happy!

BTW, the dive school I went to, was Native Diving in Puerto Lopez.

This was a lovely day. Spend the day with Mike; we went to a national park, different beaches and enjoyed amazing food at a beach town overlooking the ocean. We even spotted a dolphin!  But you know, a day on a motorbike and having meaningful conversations on the beach, I mean that’s basically what a perfect day looks like.

My evening shift is about to start, the last one here. After this, only one more shift and thats it. The last week here at Las Tunas and Onda Hostel has started. It’s just crazy how fast it all went by. Kinda sad cause these three weeks have flown by, but I am also happy to get moving again. Even though this place is really nice and going to the beach at any moment you feel like, makes me super happy, I also know it’s not MY place. It feels like I just don’t really belong here or connect with the other volunteers as much as they do. And that’s fine because everybody has their people and their place. And as lovely it is here, this is just not mine.

I wrote a new poem and for the first time in a while I am actually happy with it. Ever since traveling the things I write don’t seem as good to me, compared to the ones I wrote before. I don’t know why, but the words couldn’t seem to express my feelings the way I intended them to. Maybe it’s because writing from the comfort of your home is easier. Or maybe I am not in touch with my emotions anymore. Or the traveling itself keeps me so busy that I don’t take enough time to process and that reflects in the poems. I don’t know what it is, but I do know that I am actually happy with this one. Here it is:

just be yourself
that’s what they say
but what if you don’t like you
is it okay to change?
i’d like to be more considerate
give more energy
be a better me
are we still we
if we go down that road
is us still us
if we keep changing
keep improving, keep moving
nothing remains the same
when the images are fading
can we keep the frame?

The sun set in the ocean today! One of the first ones since we’re here! Usually there is a layer of clouds right above the ocean so the sun disappeared before it could touch the ocean. But not today. Even though today the whole sky was covered in clouds, so much so that we even hesitated to go to the beach. But I’m glad we went anyway, cause there was exactly one line of cloud free sky and it was perfect.
