Week #5

Diving day! As much as I love diving I am always just a little bit nervous before going into the water. Especially with all new people cause you don’t want to hold the group back in any way. And since my ears are almost always a little bit of a problem, I just get nervous. But today was good! We had such a nice group of people that after the dive all of us went for a drink.

And the dives itself were just so nice! First dive at Seymour we saw so many white tip sharks chilling on the ground. It was a pretty calm dive where we swam next to a rock so we saw many smaller fish too.

The second dive at Mosquera was in the open water. Which was kinda scary at first. But the moment the guide pointed down at something and we all just rushed after him into the blue, gave such an adrenaline rush. We saw a school of maybe 50 rays! They were swimming in circles under us so they passed us several times! So amazing.

Diving day! Or better yet best diving day ever!

My diving group was with the same people as the day before, so super nice! Two dives at Gordon Rocks, the place were you hope to see manyyyy hammerhead sharks. And the first dive was.. I don’t want to say disappointing, cause it was still really cool with the different type of sharks, an eagle ray swimming next to me for a few minutes and many turtles. But compared to the second dive, it was kind of average 🙃.

Cause that second dive was just absolutely insane! During the whole dive, from beginning to end, so many things happened. We had about five eagle rays swimming left from us, at the right some hammerhead sharks, a turtle under us and mobula rays above us. Then a few minutes later we swam through a school of I don’t know how hammerhead sharks. Under us, left, right, just everywhere. It was crazy! And then some more white and black tip sharks, all the different rays, turtles. I just didn’t know where to look at some point. I wanted to scream from happiness. And as soon as we reached surface again, we all did. We all started laughing and shouting words of disbelief of what just happened.

I am still in the happy buzz from the diving yesterday. Today is travel day to Isla Isabela and a chill day too, cause I need a day to recharge. So we bought a coconut to drink from and laid down on the beach to look at the waves.

June 27

What a chill day! I started the morning alone at the beach and that’s just always a good idea cause it brings me in such a good headspace for the day.

Mike and I rented bicycles for the day and went on a scavenger hunt to look for the big land turtles. We saw five! So cool!

Then in the afternoon we went to a free snorkelling spot. And even after all the diving it still was super nice! We saw an eagle ray, a turtle, a school of fish and two sea lions playing with sunglasses someone accidentally dropped. And they even brought it back to the deck, too funny!

June 28

Last full day without travel at the Galapagos. It all went so fast. Next time I go here I would stay at least a month, for sure. Especially Isla Isabela is just really nice with all the beautiful and calm beaches. I just love looking at all the iguanas and pelicans.

We went on a snorkelling tour with people I met diving which was really nice! Again so many white tip sharks and turtles. The wild life here on the Galapagos is just crazy.

June 29

I just love to spend my days in a coffeeshop. Even on a travel day like this with two ferry’s it still gives me such a calm feeling. To just be there, reading and writing, drinking overly expensive coffee and looking at people walking by.

I am so stupid. I make notes on my phone every now and then to remember what I did that day or how I felt. And just now, I wanted to organise some notes and copy a few to a different folder. But I didn’t pay attention and now I lost the notes for this whole week. I’ll write them again but it’s more difficult to this way. And mostly I am just annoyed by myself.

Anyways we’re on the plane back to the mainland. I am a little sad that this is the end of the vacation with Mike. It’s really great to travel together and I would have loved to have more time on the islands. But now it’s back to travel life. I truly am really am happy to see new places again, but it’s also kinda hard to let go of the comfortable and easy life of the last month and a half.
