Week #2

June 3, 16:42

When here, this is my favourite moment of the day. Going to the beach to listen to the waves. To look at the horizon and feel life completely. Patiently waiting for the sunset. And even when there are a million clouds, we still go. It’s a beautiful tradition we created together.

I am pretty sure the ocean talks to me. It tells me that this is where I belong. It tells me that in life i am exactly where I’m supposed to be. That I am right on track to wherever that track is supposed to take me. It gives me such a calming feeling, to let the ocean wash away any worry.

On a more ‘earth’ level; I worked 5 days this week, a normal workweek, and I am tireddd. This week went way too fast. I even felt like I didn’t have enough time to really enjoy this place. I know, such problems I have. But it made me realise, that it’s so easy to get caught up in life that you forget where you are. Even in a beautiful place like this. I am going to try to be more aware of this and take a moment each day to appreciate this life.

So I finished my website where I will share this diary and some of my photos and poetry. I don’t know yet what I want to do with this. But for now it’s just a way to document my travels and to keep my family and friends updated on day to day life. For now that’s enough. And maybe it doesn’t even have to be more than this.

This morning I woke up thinking about a carreerpath in animal welcare or marine life. And I found some great diving options where you could do courses to gain experience in marine conservation. Especially one in Honduras seems great, so I’m gonna send them a message to ask for more info and prices. And if that still sounds good, I might go there next year!

Then after that thinking I went to spend the day at the beach. And what a lovely day. I put on some music and danced on an empty beach. I collected rocks with the theme: rocks that look like planets. Had some good coffee in a different village. Just a great day.

Second day off and Alex, Jule and I (some of the other volunteers) tried to go to Olon. But we live life too slowly so it didn’t happen. When we were waiting for the bus it started raining, so we seeked shelter. And when the bus drove by we were too late to raise our hand to tell the bus to stop. So it passed and since there’s only one bus every half hour, we decided to go back to the hostel. To still create a different scene, we drank our cup of coffee in the co-working space instead of the bar. Which was, to be honest, actually also really nice.

Called with Simone afterwards (my best friend) and it was just the best! She was doing so well and looked and sounded so happy. Ahhh just the best feeling ever, to see her in her flow and excited about life. Makes me really happy.

Started ‘studying’ for the advanced open water course. When I signed up for it I thought it was just diving but apparently there is some theory you have to know as well. Makes sense of course but it just didn’t cross my mind before. Lots of it is just logical thinking about safety, so not too difficult. And actually also interesting! Especially the fish ID I am excited to learn about. Cause one of the most fun things when diving is pointing at fish and signing what fish it is.

June 9, ?

I am tired. I slept maybe 3 hours yesterday. I just couldn’t fall asleep.

It was my day off this day and as I am writing this part a few days later, I literally have no idea what I did this day. Couldn’t find any text messages or photos. Just spend the day feeling miserable I guess.
