Week #28

A beautiful sunset on the last day in Chile, flying to Guatemala and turning a stranger into a friend in Antigua.

Games of Thrones, second season! We made a whole ‘program’ for the week so we can watch the entire second season. When we were in Lima, we watched the first season and I got HOOKED. And since today is Sunday, it’s a perfect day to binge watch the show.
(fast forward a week: we didn’t plan right cause I got to see the whole season BUT the last episode)

We are on ‘Gran Torre Santiago’, the tallest building in all of South America. We reserved the time sloth at 20:00 so we can watch the sunset!

And look at this - it’s so beautiful! I always thought I was more of a sunrise person, cause I love the moment the birds wake up and to watch the world get ready for the day. But every time I see a sunset my heart fills with joy and peace. It’s so cute to see that human beings gather around the windows, camera in hand, ready to enjoy the daily wonder - the most beautiful moment of every day. And every time you watch the sun set it somehow is the most beautiful one you have ever seen.

We’re at the airport. 8,5 hour early. I know, it’s crazy. BUT Mike and I have flights around the same time, so we get to wait together. And it doesn’t really make a difference if you wait at a coffeeshop in the city or at a coffeeshop at the airport. So here we are. And soon we have to say goodbye again. This time for almost 2 months. And then a major change is gonna happen. At least for me it’s the most nerve-racking one, even more than selling my house and quitting my full time job. Cause this time I am going back to an apartment and back to a job of some sort. And that is WAY more stressful than quitting everything to travel. I mean, I am also super excited about it. I get to pursue my dream of converting a van, of getting my motorbike license, of focussing on building my brand Yellow Views. I think it will be a great opportunity to do what excites me most, while getting to spend my days together with Mike.

I arrived at my hostel in Antigua, Guatemala. I have no idea what I am gonna do here, but I am so tired right now that I can’t be bothered to think about it. It’s nice too, cause all the touristy stuff I will do with my sister, Karo. So I can fully relax without being afraid of missing out on things. And I get to do some research before Zussie is here, which will make our travels much easier.

Anyways, I’m probably going to extend my stay at this hostel cause it looks NICE. It’s super clean, there’s a rooftop, hammocks, kitchen where you don’t have to do your own dishes, little working area, hot water in the shower. I mean it’s basically everything you want. Oh and look: this is the view!

This was such a nice day! Donna, a girl from my dorm, told me she was planning on going to a cat café this afternoon. So naturally, I couldn’t stay behind.

It’s a CAT CAFÉ.

Those are like the happiest places on earth. And this was the happiest of the happiest.

The café was so big - a huge garden with a lot of places for the cats to play and lay, inside seating area with a big couch for the cats to watch tv, an area for the cats to get some quiet away from the humans. Just ✨purrrrfect✨. And I found out they also offer volunteer options! They have another house where they take care of about 80 cats and 20 dogs. This café houses 27 cats. And the volunteering is basically just hanging out with the animals and giving them some love. So cool! It’s definitely something I’ll consider doing in the future!

I just made myself dinner. Yes this is worthy information, cause I rarely cook for myself. But especially since I don’t have to do any dishes here, I thought it would be a great place to start cooking. And the cooking itself I don’t mind, it’s the dishes that annoy the shit out of me. I also need to book my next accommodation and I think I’ll just go to the coast right away. I already booked my stay for Christmas at a hostel in El Paredon, a coastal town here in Guatemala. And initially I thought I would go to the lake for a week before going to the coast. But I am really not feeling long travel days and would love a vacation vibe. So beach it is. I think. I’ll search for some options tonight.

Today was the last day of Donna here in Antigua so we spend the day together going to different coffeeshops and visiting some ruins. Apparently the city is full of them, both coffeeshops and ruins.

And we found out that Donna and I like to spend our days in a very similar way. It’s so nice when you meet someone with whom you instantly click with. We bonded over our love for cats and I guess that goes deep haha. We had so many interesting conversations and while our ‘struggles’ in life are different, we understand and respect both. And she is just a really kind and nice person. So I’m really happy we got to know each other and spend the day together.
